Stewart Downing has told Goal that Luis Diaz did right to move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and not to Leeds United or Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur.

Downing believes that Diaz made the best move in the January transfer window when he joined Liverpool from FC Porto.

The winger cost Liverpool £37 million in transfer fees (Sky Sports).

Tottenham were interested in the Colombia international, according to The Guardian, and Downing, a former Liverpool player, has claimed that Leeds also wanted to sign the 25-year-old winger.

Downing told Goal: “A lot of clubs were chasing Diaz – I know Everton, Spurs, Leeds were all looking – but it couldn’t have turned out better for him, I don’t think. He’s got the best move and Liverpool have got a great player.

“Credit to him for coming and backing himself. A lot of players might have wondered if they’d play, but Diaz, just like Jota, has backed himself and look at the impact those two have had.”

Luis Diaz better off at Liverpool than Leeds or Tottenham

In our opinion, Diaz is better off at Liverpool than at Leeds or Tottenham.

Spurs may not make the Premier League top four this season, while Leeds could get relegated.

Liverpool are flying and could win the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have already won the Carabao Cup, and Diaz played a big role in the final.

Diaz has hit the ground running at Liverpool and has hugely impressed Klopp.

The winger is starting matches regularly now, which is no mean feat when you consider that Klopp has Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino as well at his disposal in the Liverpool attack.
