Rangers have scouted Lawrence Shankland regularly, according to The Daily Record.

It has been reported that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are interested in the Dundee United striker.

The Gers are claimed to have identified the 24-year-old striker as a potential replacement for Alfredo Morelos, who is wanted by French club Lille.

Stats

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Shankland scored 24 goals and provided two assists in 26 Scottish Championship appearances for Dundee United last season.

During the 2018-19 campaign, the 24-year-old scored 24 goals and provided five assists in 31 Scottish Championship matches for Ayr United, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Good signing for Rangers?

Described as a “natural goalscorer” by former Rangers winger Neil McCann on BBC Sportsound last month, Shankland is a very good striker, but he does not have any experience in the Scottish Premiership.

That will be a risk, but having said that, Morelos did not have any experience in the Scottish Premiership before he joined the Gers, and he turned out to be a fine striker.

If Morelos leaves this summer, then Rangers have to find a suitable replacement, as they simply cannot let their bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic from winning the Scottish Premiership title for the 10th season in a row.
