Former Ibrox winger Neil McCann has said on BBC Sportsound that he is surprised that Rangers have not made a move for Lawrence Shankland.

McCann has raved about Shankland, and the former Rangers winger seems to suggest that the 24-year-old striker would be a good signing for Steven Gerrard’s side.

The former Dundee manager also believes that Alfredo Morelos will stay at Ibrox beyond the summer, despite Lille’s interest in the Colombia international striker, as reported by Sky Sports.

McCann said on BBC Sportsound, as transcribed by The Scottish Sun: “I think Morelos will stay actually. I’d be surprised if he goes.

“I thought he’d maybe have left last year but he went right off the boil and I don’t know whether that has scared a few off.

“I think he’ll stay for a duration but they need somebody up top. Dykes must still be on the radar for Rangers.

“I was surprised that they didn’t have a little nibble at Lawrence Shankland; a proven goalscorer, maybe not in the Premiership, but a natural goalscorer who he could throw in.”

Stats

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Shankland scored 24 goals and provided two assists in 26 Scottish Championship appearances for Dundee United last season.

During the 2018-19 campaign, the 24-year-old Scotland international striker scored 24 goals and provided five assists in 31 Scottish Championship matches for Ayr United, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Should Rangers make a move?

If Morelos leaves this summer, then Rangers will need to sign a replacement striker, and it would make sense for the Gers to look into the possibility of signing the Scotland international striker.

True, Shankland does not have experience of playing in the Scottish Premiership and there will be a lot of pressure on him at Rangers, but the 24-year-old has been scoring goals for fun for the past three seasons and is already a Scotland international.
