The Gers took the lead early on, before being pegged back by Ufa, but the game was turned on its head in the 37th minute, when Alfredo Morelos was sent off.
Things got worse for Rangers when Jon Flanagan received his marching orders in the 66th minute, but the Glasgow giants performed admirably, and eventually saw out the game, securing their passage into the group stages of the competition.
Gerrard spoke to reporters after the game, and shared how he warned his players against exactly what ended up happening, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account:

“I spoke to the players before the game about being disciplined, and trying to keep 11 men on the pitch. Obviously you don’t get away with what you get away with domestically here in Europe. So, we’ve got ourselves to blame. I’m sure the players who got sent off will be a bit down, and I’m sure they will apologise to their team-mates.”
Rangers will have to be disciplined on Sunday when they face Celtic at Parkhead, and keeping 11 men on the pitch will be of paramount importance to their chances of beating Brendan Rodgers’ side.
