Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has said that he does not want John McGinn to move to Manchester United, as quoted in BirminghamLive.
The Sun reported last weekend that Manchester United are interested in signing McGinn from Villa.
United interim-manager Ralf Rangnick has personally taken interest in the 27-year-old midfielder.
Steven Gerrard’s verdict on John McGinn
Villa manager and Liverpool legend Gerrard has said that he does not want McGinn to leave.
The Englishman has raved about the Scotland international midfielder and wants to work with him long-term.
Gerrard told BirminghamLive about McGinn: “John has been outstanding in every way, both on and off the pitch.
“I want to work with John McGinn for a long time and we see a big role for him to try and help us push Villa forward to be as successful as we can be.”
Gerrard added: “John has certainly been one of the most consistent ones over the four games. I knew John a little bit before I came through the door, and I knew he’d be the type of player to run through a wall for me.
“The effort, the commitment and the desire, the energy that he gives this team, but not only that he plays with real quality as well.”

Strong response
In our opinion, Gerrard’s response about McGinn and his future is quite strong.
It is clear from his comments that the Villa manager rates the Scotland international highly.
Also remember, Gerrard is a Liverpool legend.
So, the former England international midfielder will not want to sell Manchester United one of their best players.
Now, of course, we know money talks.
And United are a massive club with huge finances.
However, Villa are an established club in the Premier League who are not lacking money.
So, in our view, if United want to sign McGinn, then they will have to pay a lot of money.
