Steven Bergwijn has been quoted as saying that he will leave Tottenham and join the “best option” this summer – amid reports Ajax have had a bid rejected. He also responded to a question about the Dutch giants.
Bergwijn, 24, endured another tricky campaign at Spurs in which he started just four Premier League matches. Antonio Conte has been very complimentary – saying he is a “quality player”, but his game time has not changed.
His form for the Netherlands, though, is a different story. In his last four Netherlands caps, he has scored five goals – including the first of four against Belgium on Friday night in a 4-1 UEFA Nations League win.

Quoted by Dutch football fan account AFC Ajax on Twitter, Bergwijn responded to questions from the media regarding his future. It comes after De Telegraaf reported Ajax had seen a bid rejected for the Dutch attacker.
“I barely got to play this season but here at the National Team the manager is giving me the confidence. “I will join the club that’s the best option for me,” Bergwijn said. Asked if that was Ajax, he said: “We will see.”
Bergwijn will leave Tottenham for ‘best option’: Ajax is a great move
Even without Erik Ten Hag at the helm, Ajax present a brilliant option for Bergwijn. It will see him join a club that are not only head and shoulders above any other Dutch side, but also a decent force in the Champions League.
It will help him regain his confidence and establish himself further in the Dutch side ahead of the World Cup. Yes, Bergwijn would prefer to be playing regularly in a big European league, but Ajax is what he needs right now.
