Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has told Football.London that Steven Bergwijn needs to believe in himself more.
Conte has said that Netherlands international winger Bergwijn is different to the players that he has got at his disposal at Tottenham at the moment.
The former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss believes that the 24-year-winger needs to continue to work hard and add facets to his game.
Conte’s comments on Bergwijn came in the wake of the Dutchman saying this week that he is frustrated with his lack of playing time at Tottenham and is willing to leave.
Antonio Conte on Tottenham Hotspur’s Steven Bergwijn
Conte told Football.London about Bergwijn: “We are talking about a player with great quality and potential. He’s different to the players we’ve got in the squad, 1v1 when the space is very short and he’s good to beat the man and create chances.
“I think Steven has great space for improvement and he has to give continuity. He needs to continue to work hard. He’s a player that can change the situation. He can create chances for himself and others.
“I think he needs to believe in himself more. He needs to continue to work with and without the ball and help the team in every moment. Football is a team game and you have to be ready to help the team in every moment. For sure we are talking about another player who is doing important improvements.”

Big summer ahead
In our opinion, Bergwijn should seriously consider his future at Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
The winger has made only four starts in the Premier League so far this season.
The 24-year-old is unlikely to establish himself as a regular in the Tottenham first team in the final weeks of the campaign.
Bergwijn is a very good winger who can still grow and develop his game in the coming years.
But, how is Bergwijn going to do that by warming the bench?
He needs to play regularly.
