West Ham United have produced two pretty woeful Premier League campaigns.
Yes, two seasons ago they were celebrating one of their greatest successes after they won the Europa Conference League.
But they finished that campaign 14th, before a ninth-placed finish in David Moyes’ final season as boss.
That included conceding 74 Premier League goals – only the three relegated teams shipped more, which proved the problems at the club and how there needed to be a change.
That has happened with Moyes heading for the exit door and West Ham bringing in the much-experienced Julen Lopetegui.
And to nobody’s surprise, he is getting to work with the squad and has already made moves in the summer transfer market.
Max Kilman completed his move to West Ham from Wolves and many other possible deals have been discussed with the window slamming shut on August 30.
The Hammers fans want that bite, excitement and high-level quality back in their team and they could just do that with their next possible deal.
Steve Nicol was reacting to the suggestion that West Ham want to sign former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.
The Liverpool legend expressed his shock at this news and questioned why none of the Premier League’s ‘giants’ aren’t looking to sign him, as he told ESPN.
Sources have told HITC that Kante has been offered to West Ham, but one thing is holding the deal back.
Either way, Nicol thinks West Ham need to be quick and ‘get Kante signed’ before the Al-Ittihad star changes his mind.
West Ham United urged to hurry N’Golo Kante signing
“Yeah (get it done), before he has too long to think about it,” said Nicol. “With all due respect, if you are coming back, I would have thought someone like Kante would want to come back to one of the so-called giants, as opposed to West Ham.
“Let’s be honest, West Ham are probably going to be mid-table again. Is that really what Kante wants? Probably because he did so well at the Euros, it has sort of reignited the thought of the Premier League and being at the top.
“But then as I said, West Ham isn’t going to be at the top. Get it signed, sealed and delivered before he can think too long about it.”

N’Golo Kante at Euro 2024
France were knocked out of the semi-final stages by eventual winners Spain, with Kante proving to be one of his side’s best players.
Even though he is 33 and playing in the Saudi Pro League, he performed nothing like it, and instead, rolled back the years.
Gary Neville and Roy Keane lauded Kante’s performance at Euro 2024, with the former right-back calling him ‘outstanding’.
One thing is for sure, Kante has an abundance of experience, and if he can remain injury-free and cope with the speed of the Premier League again, then he will cause havoc.
But plenty of big deals could be concluded by the East London side this summer, with sources telling HITC that West Ham United and Tim Steidten continue talks to sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran.
