Enzo Maresca is officially through the doors at Chelsea after joining from Leicester City.
You wonder how long the Championship-winning boss will last at Stamford Bridge if things start off poorly because there is a lot of pressure on his shoulders.
Mauricio Pochettino’s sudden exit shocked many because it happened after only 12 months in charge.
Yes, you can understand why Enzo Maresca has taken the job because, only a few years ago, Chelsea were winning the Champions League.
They are now a long way away from that, but many inside the club feel that they can get back to those heights again.
But Steve Nicol isn’t too sure about what the Americans in West London are doing, especially after they handed Graham Potter a five-year contract, practically allowed him to bring the whole of Brighton with him and then sacked him within the same season.
It’s the money of Todd Boehly and Co, but it’s flying down the drain in next to no time and Nicol is just further perplexed by what they have done after Maresca’s arrival.
Chelsea announced on their website that the Italian, who worked under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, has come in as Head Coach and signed a five-year deal.
Nicol stated that there is ‘no way’ that this is ‘straight up five years’ and that it’s impossible after their previous failings under Potter, as he told ESPN.
Not only can the Liverpool legend not understand why they have brought in a manager who has just managed in England’s second tier, but he can’t believe the length of the deal he has been handed.
Enzo Maresca’s five-year contract at Chelsea
“There is no way this is straight up five years,” said Nicol. “Not a chance. It’s not possible.
“They have made a lot of decisions Chelsea and they have all been wrong. Surely, even they will learn from having to pay Potter up over a five-year period not to do that again.
“But then again, you know what? The fact that they have given Maresca this job. You have got to scratch your head. I am really, really trying very hard to think of a good reason why this could even be a calculated risk. A good calculated risk. But it’s not even that. How about we have a young team, who need guidance, so I know what we will do. Let’s get a young inexperienced manager and hope that he is able to guide them. What kind of sense does that make?”

Enzo Maresca’s first summer transfer window
You feel transfers and who comes in and goes out is probably one of the reasons why Pochettino was so quick to call it a day.
Even before Maresca’s name could be signed, sealed and delivered. Sources have told HITC that the London club have won the race to sign Tosin Adarabioyo ahead of his contract expiring at Fulham.

This is a deal that is seemingly being conducted before their new manager can get warm and he probably has to get used to that.
That is why it’s going to be interesting to see how all of this unfolds because if there is anything but drama, then it will be surprising.
