Steve Kerr could not hide his satisfaction after Pat Spencer’s impressive showing in the Golden State Warriors’ win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It was one of the more unexpected results of the NBA season, with Golden State pulling off an upset on the road despite missing several key players.

Spencer finished the game with a career-high 19 points, leading the Warriors to a hard-fought win without their top stars.

Since joining Golden State on a two-way deal last season, the 29-year-old has become a valuable asset, stepping up whenever called upon.

Kerr has already expressed interest in making Spencer the primary backup to Stephen Curry, and recently explained why Spencer is starting to see more playing time.

After the Warriors got past the Cavaliers, Kerr spoke highly of Spencer. He noted how much his three-point shooting has improved, which has helped open up the offense.

The coach also spoke about how Spencer’s mindset contributes to his impact.

“He’s really improved his jumpshot. Last year, he would turn down a lot of threes, drive in, and shoot a lot of floaters. He’s never gonna be Steph, but he’s a threat out there. That’s what it takes.

“You have to be a threat from the line to be able to pull the defence out. I just think the shot quality, now, that we’re getting with him on the floor is way better than it was the last couple of years.”

“The other thing is his coach realized Pat is that m———–. That became clear.”

Warriors look to carry momentum forward with Stephen Curry nearing return

Kerr has praised how Spencer has stepped up in Curry’s absence, but there is no question the Warriors are not the same without their franchise player.

Curry has been sidelined since picking up an injury against the Houston Rockets, but Kerr recently said he expects him back next week.

On top of that, Golden State have also been missing Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, leaving a lot on the shoulders of their supporting cast.

With several stars set to come back soon, it remains to be seen if the team can keep this good run going or if adjustments will be needed as everyone settles back in.
