Steve Bruce has revealed that Sheffield Wednesday will enter talks with Norwich City within the next two weeks regarding the future of Jordan Rhodes.

Rhodes is currently on loan at Norwich from Wednesday, who meet at Carrow Road on Friday.

But despite the Canaries’ success this season – they are seven points clear of third-placed Sheffield United at the top of the Championship – the 29-year-old has failed to feature prominently, with just 11 of his 39 appearances arriving as a starter, although he has still managed to score nine goals for his temporary employers.

“Well I mean it probably hasn’t gone as well in terms of timing on the pitch for Jordan,” said Bruce, the Sheffield Wednesday manager, via the club’s official Facebook page. “I think the big thing is just the minutes he’s played has been obviously limited since they’ve had a little bit of a shuffle – they play one up top and one off.

“And he hasn’t probably played as much as he’d like, but when you’ve got somebody who’s scored 27 goals (Teemu Pukki) and the system they play has probably limited Jordan to not enough minutes on the pitch.

“But we’ll have a conversation with Norwich over the next week or so, two weeks, and see where the situation lies.”

Rhodes’ exit last summer owed much to Sheffield Wednesday’s strength in depth in attack, a situation that hasn’t changed throughout the course of the campaign.

“We’ve got now six strikers and if Jordan comes back in the summer we’ve got seven, which is not healthy,” Bruce acknowledged. “So yes, we’ve got to make big decisions. It’s what we’ll talk about next week. And I’m sure Jordan’s situation will be brought into the equation as well.

“We’ll have to be led by Norwich to see what they’ve got up their sleeve but I haven’t asked about the deal and what it entails. We’ll ask those questions next week.”

Bruce tried to sign Rhodes at two of his former clubs, Hull City and Aston Villa, and agreed the Scotland international can still be a valuable asset for Sheffield Wednesday.

“Oh yeah, there’s no question about that,” he added. “He’s somebody I’ve always liked as a player, that’s for sure. If you look at his goalscoring record it’s second to none.

“So if he comes back then okay, good, then let’s see what we do. But I haven’t made any real thought process of it just yet, and I (won’t do) that really until probably after this weekend.

“I can’t see any reason why (he can’t get back to his best). He’s a decent age. I can’t see any reason why not.”

Rhodes whose uncle, Steve Agnew, is Sheffield Wednesday’s assistant manager, is said to earn £38,500-a-week at Hillsborough (The Sun).
