Steve Agnew insists Sheffield Wednesday have had no contact at all for any of their players – including the Aston Villa-linked Adam Reach

The former Aston Villa coach is in temporary charge of Sheffield Wednesday until Steve Bruce arrives.

The new Sheffield Wednesday assistant manager, Steve Agnew, has insisted the Owls have received no approach for any player – including the Aston Villa-linked winger, Adam Reach – since he arrived at Hillsborough.

The Daily Star claimed earlier this week that Villa – Agnew’s previous employers – are considering a bid for Reach, who is said to be valued around the £10 million mark by Wednesday.

Meanwhile, another Owls player, Gary Hooper, is rumoured to be interesting clubs in the United States and China [Sky Sports].

But speaking at his pre-Hull City press conference on Friday, Agnew – who is currently operating as Sheffield Wednesday’s caretaker manager – told the club’s official Facebook page: It’s January ins’t it? It’s (the same at) any club.

“You guys [the media] speculate on movement in the transfer window. But no, (in terms of contact, there has been) nothing at all. I think it’s normal – every club in the country will get linked with players coming, players leaving.”

Wednesday have been linked with incomings of their own this month – including one Aston Villa are previously said to have courted, in Alexander Milosevic [Fotboll Direkt] – but asked if the Owls are likely to end the window with a similar group of players, Agnew replied: “As far as I’m aware, yeah.

“I don’t think there’ll be many changes. Let’s see what January brings.”

The appointments of Agnew, Stephen Clemence and the former Aston Villa manager, Steve Bruce, were announced by Sheffield Wednesday at the start of this month.

Bruce, however, has delayed his arrival until February 1 due to what is understood to be a commitment he made to his wife following the death of both of his parents in 2018.
