As we write this, Oliver Skipp is looking like a man who can become the lynchpin of Tottenham’s midfield for many years.

The England Under-21 international is currently thriving at Norwich, where he is enjoying a season-long loan from Spurs.

Canaries boss Daniel Farke has spoken glowingly of the 20-year-old, describing him as a player who makes few mistakes.

‘We take it for granted Oliver Skipp plays nearly every game with so little mistakes.’

Jose Mourinho even tipped the Welwyn Garden City-born midfielder to become Tottenham captain one day, due to his leader-like mentality.

The Evening Standard quote the Spurs boss as saying: ‘Sometimes coaches are selfish and I told him that. I never told him I want him to go on loan, I always told him I wanted him to stay here because that’s the selfish perspective of a coach who wants the best possible squad.

‘In his mind he wants to go on loan, [for] six months, the whole season. He feels that he needs that, I also feel that would be good for his evolution, so maybe that is the direction we go. I think he can be more than a player, he can be a future captain here’.

The orchestrator of Norwich’s midfield isn’t just doing it for the Norfolk-based side.

Skipp has been impressing for England’s Under-21 side, delivering a fine assist for Jamal Musiala which prompted one supporter to describe the set-up as ‘Modric-esque‘ – high praise indeed.

The Tottenham academy graduate has started all 15 of Norwich’s Championship games this season. Tellingly, the Canaries sit top of the table, which is testament to Skipp’s good work.

WhoScored shows that the prodigious talent wins 2.1 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game in the Championship.

He also averages 56.4 passes every 90 minutes, with a success rate of 88.1%.

The future certainly looks to be bright for Skipp, a player who seems mature beyond his years.
