‘Starting to look’: Pundit names two superclubs who could sign Arsenal star

BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has suggested that the likes of Arsenal star Bukayo Saka could be an attractive option for the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Writing in his Team of the Week column, the former Tottenham forward claimed that Saka is one of many emerging English talents who would now be an attractive option for some of the biggest clubs in world football if he was to leave Arsenal.

Saka was once again in top form for Arsenal this weekend as the winger bagged his second goal of 2022 in a 2-1 win against Brentford, fuelling the Gunners’ march for a top-four finish with West Ham drawing at home to Newcastle United.

Indeed, the 20-year-old winger has once again been key for Arsenal this season, and according to Crooks, Saka has the potential to play for a European superclub such as Barcelona or Madrid, such is the youngster’s quality and ceiling in football.

The BBC pundit wrote: “Arsenal seem to be finding themselves under Mikel Arteta, by investing in youth with a hint of experience. One of Arsenal’s most influential players, and one of the youngest, is Bukayo Saka. I don’t think there is any more I can say about this player that I haven’t already said.”

Crooks added: “We are, however, coming into a period in the modern game when English players are starting to look attractive to the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid again. Although in the current climate I doubt whether they can afford the likes of Saka, which is fortunate for Arsenal.”

There’s no denying that Saka is the current jewel in Arsenal’ crown, with the winger a player who is already one of the best for the north London club and could become better under the right coaching and set of teammates.

Which is what makes it so important that the Gunners’ renew the attacker’s contract at all costs. Saka’s current deal ends in 2024, and whilst the youngster does look likely to sign fresh terms, Arsenal must ensure the 20-year-old puts pen to paper with his boyhood club before it’s too late.
