Well, the Cristiano Ronaldo to Newcastle United story might not be quite dead just yet.

According to The Daily Mail this week, Ronaldo, who has been sacked by Manchester United following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan last week, has since been offered to the St James’s Park outfit.

On Thursday, 90 Min revealed – as covered by HITC Sport – that Newcastle have personally touched the 37-year-old’s people that they will not be pursuing a possible deal to bring him to Tyneside.

But an Italy-based journalist has told Tuttomercatoweb that actually, the Portugal international does have an ‘important offer’ from the Magpies.

Xavier Jacobelli said: “Ronaldo won’t be released for long, I think he can find a team as early as 2 January. On the one hand, he has an important offer from Newcastle, a club owned by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund that wants a big media hit and could also make an operation for then take him to Arabia in the following years.”

Is Cristiano Ronaldo joining Newcastle?

Well that’s certainly a talking point and if Jacobelli is right, then Ronaldo – a £20 million signing by Manchester United in 2021 [The Guardian] – to St James’s Park is definitely a possibility.

If Newcastle have made the veteran an offer to join then that’s a pretty solid indication that he’s a wanted man in the North East.

That being said, Eddie Howe and Dan Ashworth should lobby against such a deal happening.

Howe’s side are third in the Premier League and are doing perfectly fine without Ronaldo.

Phenomenal a goalscorer as he may be, do Newcastle even need him? The fact that it’s a debate in itself ought to illustrate that this is a team on the right track.
