Uruguay international Sebastian Caceres has given the ‘green light’ to a January move to Tottenham Hotspur and the Premier League giants can get the Club America defender for just over £6.5 million.
Speaking to talkSPORT last week, South American expert Tim Vickery will have left Tottenham Hotspur supporters in no doubt about what they can expect should Sebastian Caceres end up in North London.
“Either the ball gets passed or the man gets passed, but not both,” Vickery quips.
Caceres is, in many ways, the typical Uruguay centre-half. A man cut from Cristian Romero’s cloth, Caceres loves nothing more than sticking the boot in and throwing his body on the line, even if an average of one yellow card every four games in Mexico’s top flight suggests that – like a certain Argentine – he would benefit from curbing that aggression at times.

Tottenham make ‘offer’ for Sebastien Caceres
There is reportedly interest from Newcastle and Manchester United too.
But Tottenham, as things stand, appear to be further down the line in pursuit of the tough-tackling, granite-carved 24-year-old. Romero’s suspension, Micky van de Ven’s injury and the uncertainty surrounding Eric Dier shining a light on the lack of defensive depth at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal.
“Tottenham have sent a formal offer to Club America. There is a ‘green light’ from the agent and the player,” reporter Fernando Esquivel writes on X.
Tottenham, Esquivel adds, hope to get Caceres through the door in January. Club America will allegedly respond to that ‘offer’ over the next few days.
Fellow reporter Jonatan Pena, meanwhile, believes that the bidding will start at £6.5 million, a potential bargain of a fee for a player who has wasted no time in establishing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet under Uruguay’s legendary head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
“Sebastian Caceres wants to go to Europe as soon as possible,” Pena adds. “We reiterate; Club America is not going to give him away. Now, they want a minimum of 8 million dollars.”
The reason for Caceres’ very affordable price-tag is simple. His Club America contract expires in 13 months’ time, and there appears to be little movement on an extension.
