Ben White is reportedly set to be called up to the England squad later today for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
According to the Guardian, the 23-year-old defender will replace Harry Maguire in the defence. The Manchester United star is out through injury, and Gareth Southgate is seemingly a fan of White, who the England manager called up for Euro 2020.
White has had a mixed start to life at Arsenal after arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion for £50m. Since being paired alongside Gabriel Magalhaes, the ball-playing defender has conceded just one goal in three Premier League matches.
Bukayo Saka will likely retain his spot in the England squad after a stunning performance against Tottenham over the weekend. However, it is unlikely that Aaron Ramsdale and Emile Smith Rowe will receive senior call ups this time around.
The Arsenal shot-stopper has replaced Bernd Leno as Mikel Arteta’s number one goalkeeper. Whilst Smith has flourished in the past two games for the Gunners.
Indeed, the new British core of this Arsenal team have all impressed since the last international break. And for White, his form has seen himself return to the England squad for games against Hungary and Andorra.

And on social media, Arsenal fans are buzzing that White could be playing for England over the international break. Southgate’s side are close to qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
