Matheus Nunes showed Liverpool what they missed out on with a dazzling display for Wolves in their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

It was the Telegraph who claimed that Wolves pounced on the £38m man back in August while Liverpool twiddled their thumbs, although the Sunday Mirror believe the Reds will try again as they keep tabs on the Portugal international.

If Jürgen Klopp settled down to watch Wolves take on the Blues at Stamford Bridge, he will have surely been left impressed by Nunes despite Chelsea recording a 3-0 win.

Matheus Nunes shows Liverpool what they missed out on

Despite being part of the losing side in west London, the 24-year-old showed tremendous amounts of quality and bravery against Chelsea. He was by far the best player in a Wolves shirt.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Pat Nevin was also left impressed by the Wolves No.27’s display at Stamford Bridge, as he called Nunes the “standout player” for the away side.

The 59-year-old said: “That was the best move so far, by some distance. Once again it is Matheus Nunes. He has been a standout player for Wolves so far.”

You may be wondering what move Nevin is talking about.

Well, Nunes showed off everything that makes him special midway through the first half, as he somehow surged through the entire Chelsea side singlehandedly before creating a chance for Goncalo Guedes.

As you can see, the Liverpool target is a gem of a midfielder, who has so many strings to his bow.

Liverpool need Matheus Nunes

The Reds face paying much more than the £38m Wolves spent on Nunes, given the fact he has a contract at Molineux running until July 2027, but he would certainly be worth a significant sum for Liverpool.

Klopp’s midfield is creaking as the likes of James Milner and Jordan Henderson aren’t getting any younger, so a maestro like Nunes in the middle of the park would transform Liverpool.

The Merseysiders will kick themselves for ignoring the chance to sign him over the summer, although it certainly isn’t over yet as the Reds maintain their interest.
