Tottenham Hotspur must take the opportunity to watch RB Leipzig forward Lois Openda in action against Real Madrid tonight.

Spurs pounced to sign a new striker in January, ironically from RB Leipzig.

Timo Werner came in on loan for the rest of the season, penning a deal with a permanent option for the end of the season.

Werner has so far been deployed as a left-sided winger and has provided two assists in four Premier League appearances.

Spurs must soon decide whether to pay up to sign 27-year-old Werner permanently, but they may actually have one eye on another RB Leipzig player.

Tottenham Hotspur must scout Lois Openda against Real Madrid

Reports in December suggested that Tottenham were interested in snapping up RB Leipzig striker Lois Openda.

Those reports indicated that Openda would cost around £75million with RB Leipzig demanding a hefty profit on the striker they signed from Lens last summer.

Tottenham may be reluctant to pay such a price but Champions League qualification may just allow Ange Postecoglou to go and land a top striker just like Openda.

The Belgian has been exceptional this season, hitting 15 goals in 21 Bundesliga games, including four goals in his last four games.

Spurs now have a great chance to scout Openda in action against truly top competition as RB Leipzig host Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League tonight.

Openda will be RB Leipzig’s big hope in front of goal and a strong performance in Germany tonight would only add to the belief that Openda is becoming one of Europe’s best.

Openda terrorised Manchester City with a two-goal showing at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season and Spurs must watch him in action tonight as they weigh up a move.

£75million is a lot of money but having been hailed as ‘super-fast’ by former Club Brugge boss Philippe Clement, Openda could be just the man to lead Postecoglou’s attack.

Postecoglou loves pace but predatory instincts inside the box are vital too, given the way Tottenham create chances with cut backs and balls across the six-yard box.

Openda can thrive in that approach and he now has the chance to prove himself against Europe’s best with Spurs surely watching on.
