A former Arsenal target is now being linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

According to L’Equipe, as translated by GFFN,, Spurs have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona attacker Antoine Griezmann.

With the Camp Nou club suffering with a huge amount of debt, the Catalans have seemingly offered the France international to Tottenham.

And if it were to happen, Arsenal fans may be a little envious.

That’s because the Gunners have been linked with the former Atletico Madrid star on and off in recent years.

Exceptional

The link actually goes much further back than widely believed and in 2013, Football London report that then-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could have signed the player but wound up getting Mesut Ozil instead.

Shortly after leaving the North Londoners five years later, Wenger described Griezmann – who would later secure a £103 million move to Barcelona – as ‘exceptional‘.

Gamer

Historically, Griezmann may also have preferred a move to Arsenal over Tottenham.

That’s because the Frenchman is also a keen gamer and used to play as the Emirates Stadium club on Football Manager [BBC Sport].

This was only in 2019 so it suggests that the 30-year-old had an affinity for Arsenal even then.

The idea of signing somebody once linked to their North London rivals may please Spurs fans but, it has to be noted, that he doesn’t fit the profile is your typical Daniel Levy signing.

But with Fabio Paratici calling the shots in N17 these days, anything is possible.
