Slowly but surely, Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer window is heating up.

Spurs still have not signed anybody but they’re heavily tipped to wrap up deals for Bryan Gil and Pierluigi Gollini shortly.

And another, more exciting name has now been linked to Tottenham.

According to French publication L’Equipe, translated by Get French Football News, Barcelona have offered Antoine Griezmann to the Lilywhites and Manchester City.

The debt-riddled Catalans are in major trouble financially and offloading Griezmann – whom they paid £103 million for in 2019 – may appease some concerns.

Will it happen?

Well Tottenham might well need a world-class goalscorer over the coming weeks if Harry Kane leaves.

And there’s no doubt that they could afford the France international if Daniel Levy picks up a nine-figure fee for the 27-year-old.

But let’s face it, the North Londoners won’t be taking up this offer, if it is indeed true.

Nobody doubts Griezmann’s ability but, by the same token, he turns 31 in March and there’s just no way Levy and Fabio Paratici are going to break the bank for a player whose best days are behind him.

Not only does it have to make sense on a football level, but any Tottenham signing would also have to make sense as an investment and Griezmann, given his age and how speed is vital to his game, just doesn’t.
