Well, no outfielder really had a solid performance for Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night.

And that’s certainly true of Harry Kane.

Spurs suffered their first defeat of the season in all competitions last night by losing 2-0 away to Sporting in the Champions League.

Two late goals cost Antoino Conte’s outfit what would’ve been a hard-fought point in Portugal.

With the exception of Hugo Lloris, and perhaps Ivan Perisic, the Tottenham players struggled in a major way and Kane looked a shadow of the footballer everybody knows he is.

The 29-year-old’s passing was very loose in the first half and overall he lost possession on 19 occasions [SofaScore].

In an attacking sense, Kane didn’t look at the races either, barring one effort which flashed across the face of goal.

However, one Sporting star – Paulinho – described him as a ‘great player’ after the game and added that the Lilywhites are brimming with A-list talent.

He told Mais Futebol: “The secret has to be the same, it’s to work, regardless of the opponent. We respect all opponents, but we are not afraid. [Harry Kane] He’s a great player, but it’s not just him, they have an incredible team.”

Kane is obviously a great player, as Paulinho described him, but he certainly didn’t look it last night.

However, there will be many more opportunities for the England international to shine on the Champions League stage again this season.

This was only the North Londoners’ second game in this competiton and more exciting encounters lay ahead, after beating Marseille 2-0 last week.
