Tottenham Hotspur have now entered the post-Mourinho era, and that may see them re-ignite a move for Max Aarons of Norwich City.
The London club have long-been admirers of Aarons. They were linked with a move last summer, two months ago it was reported that they’re planning a summer move, and only last week they were credited with continued interest.
Spurs could really do with a new right-back, Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier have both had indifferent seasons and have both been linked with moves away.
Now that Mourinho has gone, Spurs have nothing stopping them from bringing Aarons in.
Indeed, while Spurs have been big fans of Aarons for some time, their manager didn’t quite see things the same way, with The Athletic claiming last year that Mourinho didn’t like the idea of signing Aarons due to his diminutive stature.
“Max Aarons of relegated Norwich City would be one option after an impressive season despite his club’s struggles, although Mourinho is understood to have reservations about Aarons’ size,” The Athletic’s report stated.
Of course, height isn’t the be-all and end-all in football, and Daniel Farke’s comments on Aarons tell you all you need to know about Aarons.

“Max is outstanding in many topics. I can’t praise him enough for what he has done since his first appearance,” said Farke,
Aarons is expected to leave Norwich this summer, and with Spurs needing a right-back and Mourinho out of the picture, the path seems to be clearing for the London club to bring their long-term target to north London.
It seems as though everything is falling into place for Spurs to finally land Aarons. Norwich are resigned to losing him, they need a right-back and Mourinho is finally gone.
Let’s just hope that Tottenham’s next manager doesn’t repeat Mourinho’s mistake of judging players based solely on how big they are.
