Alasdair Gold has written on Football London that he expects Harry Winks to quit Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The 26-year-old originally showed a lot of promise under Spurs manager Antonio Conte, who replaced Nuno Espirito Santo back in November.
In fact, Nuno had effectively exiled the England international from his squad on a couple of occasions, prompting the player to admit that he was unhappy in North London.
And although Conte originally got a tune out of Winks again, the Hotspur Way academy graduate has been struggling again in recent months.
Winks even unfollowed Tottenham on Instagram a little earlier this month following a defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion at home.
Here’s what Gold wrote for Football London this afternoon: “I think Harry Winks probably will move on this summer to get regular football but I reckon Conte would want a more attack-minded, creative player to round out his options and allow him to play a 3-5-2.”
Reports from Italy last month indicated that Tottenham boss Conte could use him as a makeweight to help sign Southampton’s Valentino Livramento.
And ideally, that’s what the Lilywhites should be looking at.
Daniel Levy slapped a £40 million price-tag on him last summer which, for obvious reason, got no real interest.
This summer, Tottenham would be lucky to get £15 million for him and it makes more sense if Conte and Fabio Paratici can bring in a player in return, rather than a straight cash deal.
But Gold is right – Winks is almost certainly going to be leaving North London this summer.
A departure absolutely makes sense for all parties and hopefully for the club, they can sign Livramento.
