According to Portuguese outlet, Record, Tottenham Hotspur have planned a decisive meeting with Sporting CP about the signing of Pedro Porro next week.
The Spanish wing-back has long been touted as one of Tottenham’s top transfer targets this month, and now, Spurs are wanting to make some headway on this deal.
Spurs have pencilled in a meeting about this transfer, but, unfortunately for the north London club, it seems as though there has been no change in attitude from the Portuguese club.
Indeed, this report has further hammered home the point that Sporting are remaining firm on the fact that they want Spurs, or any club, to pay the €45m release clause to get Porro out of the club this month.
Whether or not Spurs can force them to loosen their stance slightly remains to be seen, but that will be their job at this meeting next week.
Tottenham are, understandably, reticent to go out and meet the ‘different class‘ defender’s release clause. After all, a €45m lump sum would probably represent the majority of their January budget.
However, this may come down to a case of just how much Spurs want this play.
Porro is supposedly their top target, and if Spurs are truly desperate to bring the former Manchester City man to north London, €45m is a drop in the ocean for a Premier League club, especially when one position has become such a problem.
Regardless of what happens with this Porro deal, Spurs do need a new wing-back after Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal’s poor form this season, so, be it Porro or another player, Spurs will likely be bringing a new right wing-back to the club this month.
