Tottenham have once again been linked with a move for Adama Traore.
The winger signing for Spurs would make a lot of sense. After all, he was a star under Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves and he’s apparently looking for a move out of Wolves, repeatedly refusing to sign a new contract.
However, in our view, Traore would be an unnecessary addition at Tottenham, especially because it looks as though they already have their own equivalent.
Indeed, Steven Bergwijn can bring everything that Traore would bring to Tottenham.
Look at Bergwijn’s performance against Manchester City at the weekend, he started countless counter-attacks with his blistering pace, and while he may not be quite as fast as Traore, there isn’t much in it.
Bergwijn set up a goal against the Cityzens, and If Heung-Min Son had been a little more composed against Pep Guardiola’s side, he would have had more.

Traore is a different type of player in that he has an unbelievable amount of strength to complement his speed, but sometimes brains are better than brawn, and that’s what Bergwijn has.
Pace is one thing, but running into smart spaces is another, and that’s something Bergwijn is also incredible at.
Against City, everytime he got the ball he was able to find a pocket, whether that was between the centre-back and the full-back or between the midfield lines, he knew where to run, and he got there quickly.
If Nuno is to play this counter-attacking system that relies on his wingers carrying the ball at speed, then there are few better players than Bergwijn, and while Traore is also fantastic, it would be unnecessary to spend millions on the Spaniard when the Dutchman is already there.
Bergwij has already shown signs that he can be Nuno’s new Traore.
