Speaking on his Podcast, Phil Hay has been discussing rumours linking Watford’s Ismaila Sarr with a move to Leeds.
It was reported earlier this weak that a deal to bring the Senegalese winger to Elland Road was nearing completion, but according to Hay, those reports are well wide of the mark.
Indeed, the ever-reliable Leeds reporter states that he’s spoken to the club and they’ve essentially ruled out the idea of Sarr moving to Leeds this summer.
What’s been said?
Hay spoke about what he’s heard about the 24-year-old winger.
“No, the report about Sarr from France, it’s not the first time his name has come up, but it was giving the impression that it was very much on the cards and heading this way, which it definitely isn’t from speaking to the club, they’ve essentially ruled that one out. Also Juan Mata as well, not for the first time, a report in Marca saying Leeds were the only option for him and that he wants to come, that’s been knocked by Leeds, I don’t think that will happen,” Hay said.
Overkill
Sarr is a fantastic player, but he’s most certainly not a player Leeds need right now.
The Whites are incredibly well-stocked on the wings, and splashing out more cash on Sarr would have been overkill at this point – especially when there are other more pressing matters to attend to.
Leeds are incredibly short up front and at left-back, so the money that may have been spent on Sarr would be better off going there.
However, perhaps fortunately, it seems as though Leeds actually aren’t in for Sarr, and given the Whites’ current squad composition, that’s probably a good thing, regardless of how talented the Watford man is.
