The Premier League has revealed that Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse has covered the most distance out of any player in the division this season.

For years on end, Ward-Prowse has been regarded as one of the most underrated players in England and rightfully so.

While Saints academy graduate James Ward-Prowse is renowned for his incredible free-kick taking ability, with Pep Guardiola calling him ‘the best’ he has ever seen at it via GOAL, his other attributes tend not to be spoken about as much.

How much distance has James Ward-Prowse covered and more than which Premier League players?

The £100,000-a-week man is quietly having yet another quality season but ultimately, Ruben Selles’ side are enduring a tumultuous campaign.

With the club languishing in 20th place and looking dead set for relegation, it is understandable in some ways why the England international’s season has flown under the radar.

However, it is testament to how committed James Ward-Prowse has remained throughout that he ranks the highest in terms of Premier League players with the most distance covered (302km in 26 games).

For context, the Southampton captain is ahead of the likes of West Ham and Arsenal-linked star Declan Rice (296km), Wolves’ Ruben Neves (290km), Manchester City’s Rodri (289km) and Everton’s Alex Iwobi (287km).

This stat sums up James Ward-Prowse’s commendable professionalism and how he manages to put in at least a 7 out of 10 every week.

James Ward-Prowse deserved bigger and better things in his career

Imagine a presence like James Ward-Prowse, who has covered the amount of distance that he has in the Premier League at a ‘Big Six’ club.

If not as a starter, the Englishman would at least have been an extremely useful squad option at some point in his career.

After all, not every player in champion sides as well is as glamourous as one may assume but it is the presence of such unsung, consummate professionals that ensure that the team get over the line. Alas, Ward-Prowse deserves all the credit in the world.
