Liverpool have named their price for Fabio Carvalho and it would require Southampton to break their club transfer record to get a deal over the line.

The Saints have already welcomed 11 new signings as they gear up for their return to the Premier League, but luring Fabio Carvalho to St Mary’s would be a headline signing.

Southampton boss Russell Martin hinted that he wants to sign Carvalho after they had an opening bid of £15million rejected by the Reds.

Carvalho spent the second half of last season out on loan and Hull City were hoping to keep hold of him this summer, but the 21-year-old returned and played a part in Liverpool‘s pre-season.

He scored in their latest 3-0 win over Manchester United in the United States, and HITC understands that Liverpool do not want to sell the Portuguese starlet this summer.

Former Liverpool coach Pep Lijnders has shown an interest in taking him on loan at RB Salzburg – he has also shown interest in loaning Reds star Bobby Clark.

Liverpool set asking price for Fabio Carvalho

After turning down an opening bid of £15million for Carvalho, CaughtOffside report that Liverpool have set an asking price of 30million Euros (£25million).

The report adds that Southampton are expected to return with a second bid in the range of £17million for Carvalho with the Saints eager to add him to their squad.

If Southampton were to match Liverpool’s valuation of Carvalho, it would represent a new club-record fee.

Southampton’s record signing is the £22million paid for winger Kamaldeen Sulemana in 2023.

A statement of intent from Southampton

All focus at Southampton will be staying in the Premier League this season, and they have made a promising start this summer.

They have reached into their pockets to improve several positions, with the arrival of Flynn Downes and Taylor Harwood-Bellis their headline signings so far.

But signing Carvalho would be a real statement of intent. Despite his age, he is a brilliant technician in the centre of the pitch and he has experience in the Premier League.

If Liverpool’s asking price is accurate, they should look to get a deal over the line sooner rather than later.
