HITC Football understands that Wolves are admirers of Braga starlet Rodrigo Gomes but are not planning to bring the £10 million-rated Portugal Under 21 international to the Premier League this month.

Now, Wolverhampton Wanderers do like Rodrigo Gomes. His agent admitted as much earlier in the week.

But if Wolves fans were hoping to see the reportedly £10 million-rated Gomes arrive at Molineux before the clock strikes 12 on January 31st, well let’s just say we’d advise against holding your breath. HITC has been informed that, while there is interest from Gary O’Neil’s side, Wolves have not made a bid as of yet and have no plans to change that over the coming weeks.

This, then, is a deal which may be placed on the backburner until the summer. And that appears to suit Gomes rather nicely, with the versatile wideman on loan at Estoril until June and well placed to maintain what has been an excellent breakthrough season in the Primeira Liga.

“Wolves are one of the many clubs who contacted me from the five major European leagues,” Marcelo Cipriano tells Record, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga sides also reportedly hot on Gomes’ heals.

“(Wolves are) showing interest in Rodrigo. But I believe it’s no surprise considering the excellent season he is having. The important thing at this moment is for Rodrigo to be calm. (He must) continue doing what he has been doing on the field. This way, at the end of the season, there will be no shortage of proposals from good European clubs!”

“I believe that proposals will arrive for Rodrigo Gomes.”

Gomes can play on the left but has been a revelation on the right of late. He has scored or assisted 12 goals in 18 Estoril appearances. He’s found the net six times himself, and set up just as many for his ever-grateful team-mates.

Wolves have been linked with a number of strikers this month too, Union Saint-Gilloise’s Mohamed Amoura among them.
