- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Liverpool are now ready to lock Trent Alexander-Arnold down to a long-term contract that will move the defender among the Reds’ top earners, HITC Football understands.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding campaign so far this term, having played a key role in Liverpool’s push for Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles. Alexander-Arnold has played in 25 of their 33 matches so far and has captained the Reds several times.
But Alexander-Arnold’s existing contract is due to end in June 2025, so Liverpool have made getting him signed to a new, long-term deal a priority. Another priority at Anfield is finding a successor to Jurgen Klopp, following the German confirming his exit at the end of this term.

Liverpool are ready to make Alexander-Arnold one of their highest-paid players with a new contract
Liverpool are determined to make sure that finding Klopp’s replacement does not impact on the club’s key business – like getting Alexander-Arnold to sign a new contract. HITC Football also understands that Anfield chiefs have already made contact with the right-back’s camp.
Additionally, Liverpool are confident that the club can finalise a new contract for Alexander-Arnold sooner rather than later. The 23-cap England international last put pen to paper on a new deal in July 2021. But the Reds are loath to see him enter the final year of those terms.
Talks have started between the Reds and defender’s camp over a new contract

Alexander-Arnold has been among Liverpool’s most influential players so far this season. He has registered nine assists and two goals through the Reds product’s appearances across all competitions. Only Darwin Nunez (10) has more assists than him and Mohamed Salah (9).
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has also been effusive with praise for what the centre-back has seen from Alexander-Arnold. The 32-year-old has relished the work that the right-back has put in defensively, as well as creatively, in what will now be Klopp’s final term in charge.
“He offers a lot defensively and, obviously, in possession,” Van Dijk said in November, via the Mirror. “He has qualities that are very special and he shows that, as well.
“So, he has the complete package. He has to keep doing what he’s doing, keep improving [and] keep that high standard he has for himself, and we all have for him, as well.”
