Manchester United will be without new interim manager Ralf Rangnick for their clash against Arsenal on Thursday after failing to get a work permit in time for the match.
The German coach was announced as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s successor this week, with Rangnick set to take control of United until the end of the season before joining the club at backroom level.
Before the news was made official, Arsenal supporters on social media were fearing having to have a United side led by Rangnick. However, the former RB Leipzig manager won’t watch from the stands.
That means Michael Carrick will once again take charge of United, with the Red Devils coach claiming an impressive point at the weekend against Premier League leaders Chelsea.
And now Carrick will be able to test his metal against Arteta, with the Arsenal boss eager to claim a victory at Old Trafford in the league.
The Gunners head into this match on the back of a 2-0 win against Newcastle. Yet after a 4-0 loss to Liverpool the week before, Arsenal supporters were fearing how they would perform against the Red Devils under a new manager.
Arsenal fans rejoice as Rangnick misses United game

Old Trafford has famously been a ground where Arsenal have struggled. Yet with Arteta having an impressive record against the Manchester giants, fans on social media are suddenly confident the Gunners boss can one-up Carrick.
And with no Rangnick on the touchline, Arsenal fans are now confident they can get a win at United that would solidify the Gunners’ status as European contenders.
Here’s what some Arsenal fans had to say about Rangnick missing this Thursday’s game at United on Twitter…
