This time last year, West Ham fans were crying out for Slaven Bilic to return to the London Stadium.
You could understand exactly why supporters were so keen on Bilic this time last year, Manuel Pellegrini had the Hammers staring a relegation battle in the face, while the Croatian had West Brom at the top of the Championship.
Bilic had of course already proven what he could do with West Ham, taking them to the Europa League back in the 2015/16 season.
Fortunately, the Hammers did appoint a former manager, but that was in the shape of David Moyes rather than Bilic, and it seems as though that was the right decision.
Bilic is now reportedly on the verge of getting sacked by West Brom after a torrid start to the Baggies’ Premier League campaign, while Moyes has West Ham flying high, 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

Of course, it’s impossible to predict how Bilic would have gotten on if he had returned, but when you look at how he did towards the end of his tenure at West Ham and how he’s getting on now at West Brom, it’s fair to say that he wouldn’t be doing as well as Moyes.
For a number of supporters, Bilic was the ideal replacement for Manuel Pellegrini this time last year, but luckily, the higher-ups at the London Stadium didn’t listen to that suggestion and appointed Moyes.
This isn’t a knock on Bilic as he’s proven during his first tenure at West Ham that he can work wonders with a talented squad.
However, this time last year, the Hammers needed a firefighter who could steer them clear of relegation, and the Croatian is, unfortunately, proving this season that he isn’t the man for that type of task.
