Kevin Campbell told the Highbury Squad Podcast that he thinks there is ‘strength’ to Arsenal wanting to sign James Maddison this summer.
But the former striker warned that the Leicester City playmaker isn’t the ‘game-changer that Arsenal crave.
With Mesut Ozil and Martin Odegaard out of the Arsenal door in recent times, the club are looking for that number ten and Maddison’s name is one they could potentially bring in.
But given that the Gunners could possibly pay ‘£70 million’ for his talents, whilst Campbell appreciates him as a player, he explained why he is unsure.
“There are some rumours coming out about Maddison and I think there is some strength in it,” said Campbell. “I like him as a player. I think he’s a good player.
“But I don’t think he’s a game-changer for Arsenal. I really don’t. I think he’s a good complimentary player when things are going well.
“But when things aren’t going well, then I don’t think he can grab the game by the scruff of the neck and be a difference-maker.
“You are talking £60-70 million, which is a lot of money. For what we need, we need him to be a difference-maker. We really do.”

Simply put, Maddison is much better than what Arsenal have in the final third and he would elevate Mikel Arteta’s side.
Maddison has a confidence and fearless nature to his game that is needed at the Emirates.
With Arsenal seemingly putting £50 million on the table for Ben White, it shows that they are serious about re-investing in a squad that has declined once again over the years.
Maddison has played his part in helping Leicester to Europe and to the FA Cup last season, and given that the Gunners aren’t even in the Europa League, at least they know that Maddison can perform at that level.
