Some Tottenham Hotspur fans are reacting on Twitter to a claim made by Gareth Bale.
The 31-year-old winger, who spent last season on loan back at Tottenham, has lavished praise on Tanguy Ndombele.
Bale claimed the France international was simply a ‘frightening‘ talent and admitted he was surprised to see how good the £63 million Mauricio Pochettino signing was in training.
Not only that, but the Welshman went one step further and compared Ndombele to the iconic Ronaldinho.
He said: “Seeing what he does in training and on the pitch here I was very surprised. Yeah, the amount of ability he has is frightening, the stuff he does with the ball, kind of reminds me of the stuff Ronaldinho used to do with the ball.”
Here’s how some fans of the North London club reacted on Twitter:
Hyperbole
There’s no doubting that the former Lyon midfielder has a hell of a lot of skill.
But to be put in the same bracket alongside Ronaldinho might be a bit much from Bale, it has to be said.
It’s been two years since Ndombele joined Tottenham for a club-record fee and he has been very much a mixed bag.
As mentioned, the talent is there, but the consistency and fitness often isn’t.
Pochettino couldn’t get the best out of him, Jose Mourinho did a little better after originally falling out with the player in the way that Mourinho often does, but Ryan Mason didn’t appear to rate him at all during his spell as interim coach.
Tottenham will be hiring a new manager in the near future and it’ll be fascinating to see if that man, whoever it is, can manage Ndombele a little better than his predecessors.
