Arsenal fans and Unai Emery maintain a strained relationship. The heir to Arsene Wenger’s throne was expected to fare better than the legendary Frenchman but his tenure barely lasted 18 months.

The Gunners have looked a lot better since Emery’s departure. Mikel Arteta has the fans on his side, and the FA Cup win last weekend increased the positivity in and around the Emirates ahead of the new season.

Emery also had a lot to say about his time at Arsenal after his departure. The former Gunners boss irked a number of fans by claiming that he stopped the club’s downfall when he arrived; something that strained the relationship even further. (read here)

Arsenal supporters have certainly moved on from Emery, but it looks like the former Gunners boss still has some unfinished business.

Foot Mercato claim that Emery, now in charge of Villarreal, is pushing for a deal to sign Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi this summer.

Good move for all parties?

The Frenchman was a massive success story under Emery but he has been frozen out by Arteta at Arsenal. Guendouzi is expected to move on this summer and a reunion with the former Gunners boss is now on the cards.

The report claims that the Spaniard has personally called Guendouzi to convince him to make a move this summer. The Frenchman is destined to leave the Emirates and joining his former boss would be brilliant for him.

However, Villarreal are reportedly pushing for a loan deal with an option to buy him permanently next season. Arsenal are unlikely to agree to a loan offer considering that they are looking to raise funds through the Frenchman this summer.

Arsenal fans would also prefer to see Guendouzi leave permanently. Some supporters even feel that Emery is helping Arsenal out by taking the midfielder off their books.
