Some Arsenal fans aren’t buying the Sergino Dest speculation on Twitter.
According to Sport in Spain, Arsenal have contacted the Barcelona right-back but the player has responded that he has no plans on leaving Camp Nou.
Dest only joined the Spanish giants last summer and a £343 million release clause was written into his contract [Bleacher Report].
And despite a relatively poor season for Barca, Dest still managed 30 appearances.
On a personal level, it was a fairly decent first season with the Blaugrana and a move to Arsenal makes zero sense.
Here’s how some fans of the North London club reacted to the speculation on Twitter:
Arsenal are going to need another right-back this summer amid heavy speculation that Hector Bellerin will be leaving.
And although Dest clearly won’t replace him, it is good that Edu is looking around for alternatives.
Tariq Lamptey of Brighton has also been linked, as has Barcelona’s Emerson Royal.
The Gunners could probably do without the stress of having to bolster this area but then again, Calum Chambers and Cedric Soares are their best options – and only options – if Bellerin goes.
Chambers has excelled there in recent months but they aren’t brilliant options for the long term.
