Arsenal have confirmed Granit Xhaka will miss three months of football due to a knee injury.

The Gunners posted an update on their official website that the Swiss international will be out on the recovery table until the New Year at the latest. Xhaka suffered an injury against Tottenham over the weekend.

The midfielder was forced off after going down in the second half. And as per the club’s statement, the injury will keep Xhaka off the pitch for at least three months following a specialist consultation.

Indeed, the news will come as a big blow for Mikel Arteta. The Arsenal manager is a fan of Xhaka, with the coach using the 29-year-old midfielder more than any other outfield player last season.

Although the midfielder was close to leaving north London this summer, Xhaka eventually penned a new deal with the club. However, his season has been turbulent, to say the least.

Xhaka was dismissed in Arsenal’s crushing 5-0 loss to Manchester City. Furthermore, the midfielder tested positive for COVID-19 whilst on international duty with Switzerland.
