Tottenham Hotspur have had some transfer shockers over the years.

Indeed, Spurs have made some serious mistakes in the transfer market in recent memory. They squandered the £85m they received for Gareth Bale back in 2013, while signings such as Vincent Jansson and Clinton N’Jie were simply wastes of time.

However, in our view, there’s now one signing that sticks out as Spurs’ worst ever – Tanguy Ndombele.

The Frenchman arrived at Spurs for a club-record fee of £63m, and he’s not even come close to repaying the faith the north London club have shown in him.

He’s struggled to get fit, he’s not played anywhere near enough football, and four managers have tried and failed to get anything out of him.

Ndombele has now been sent back out on loan to Lyon, and with the Ligue 1 outfit holding an option to buy the midfielder, we may well have seen him play his final game for Spurs.

Ndombele isn’t the worst player to ever appear for Tottenham. In fact, on very select occasions he’s looked like he has the makings of a star, being labelled as ‘fantastic’ in the past, but the reality is, he’s really not been able to showcase his talents on anything close to a regular basis.

He’s played a full 90 minutes for Spurs on just a handful of occasions, and when he has played, he’s often struggled to keep up with play while showing an abject lack of desire on the pitch.

Tottenham have had some shocking signings over the years. Before Ndombele perhaps Roberto Soldado would have been a contender for Spurs’ worst-ever, but at least he was able to play regularly and he cost half as much as the Frenchman.

It’s one thing costing a massive amount of money and playing poorly, but it’s something else entirely to show an extreme level of carelessness when you play and a lack of drive to get fit.

Ndombele’s most recent appearance for Spurs came against Morecombe where he couldn’t control the midfield against a League One side before he was substituted to a chorus of boos from his own fans. If that doesn’t sum up Ndombele’s Spurs career, we don’t know what does.

In terms of the fee paid and level of performance, Ndombele has to go down as Spurs’ worst signing of all time.
