Tottenham Hotspur have seen Harry Kane and Harry Winks become first-team regulars from their youth ranks, but there have been a couple of talents who have slipped through their net.

Noni Madueke currently looks like being a major miss for Tottenham, as the former Spurs winger is now starring for PSV Eindhoven’s first team.

There is another case in Portugal though, as Marcus Edwards is starting to fulfil the potential he showed in the Tottenham ranks.

Fans will remember that Mauricio Pochettino suggested Edwards reminded him of Lionel Messi; a comparison that seemed to weigh on him as a teenager.

Edwards made just one first-team appearance for Spurs, and after disappointing loan spells with Norwich City and Excelsior, he was sold to Vitoria de Guimaraes over in Portugal.

That was a bold step from Edwards, but it’s really paying off; last season, the 21-year-old racked up nine goals and nine assists in a superb campaign.

Back in July, reports suggested that Spurs were interested in re-signing Edwards, thanks to a €15million (£13.5million) release clause in his deal.

If Edwards is willing to make the move back to Spurs and have another go with the club, then Jose Mourinho and co should certainly be considering a deal.

Erik Lamela is into the final 18 months of his contract, Lucas Moura has been inconsistent and Gareth Bale is only on loan, meaning another right-sided winger should still be considered at Tottenham.

Edwards has shown great pace and trickery in Portugal, becoming the player Spurs expected him to be under Pochettino; he may not live up to those Messi comparisons, but he has now shown that he could really make an impact at Spurs, and Mourinho should be well aware of his exploits over in Portugal.
