Ian Wright has stated that it’s ‘so naughty’ from Alan Shearer to suggest that Harry Kane could join Newcastle United from Tottenham Hotspur and do the unthinkable by breaking his Premier League goalscoring record.

On Sunday, Harry Kane scored Premier League goal number 208 – level with Wayne Rooney – as Spurs suffered a dramatic 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, he was described as ‘elite’ by Wright.

It’s only a matter of time, but many know that the 29-year-old is edging closer to surpassing Shearer’s long-standing record of 260 Premier League goals.

Of course, the only thing that could prevent that is the England captain moving to a club outside of England.

Whilst it’s likely that Kane secures a transfer away from Spurs in the summer, with 12 months left on his contract, the teams that have been popping up the most have been Manchester United and Chelsea.

Well, when Shearer dropped Newcastle’s name into the hat, Wright was told about it by presenter Kelly Cates, which he described as ‘naughty’, as he told Premier League Productions (01/05/23 at 2:20 pm).

“You said ‘Manchester United as a possibility for him (Kane),” said Cates. “Alan Shearer, probably a little bit rattled as Harry Kane is moving up towards his total.

“Gary Lineker, a great striker himself, said ‘the brilliant Harry Kane joins Wayne Rooney on 208. He is coming for you, Alan Shearer’ (to which Shearer responded) ‘But will he break it, in a Newcastle shirt or a Manchester United shirt?'”

Wright responded: “It’s just so naughty.”

JUST IMAGINE…

All these years, Shearer would have been praying that Kane leaves England, heads abroad and works his magic there so he can keep his Premier League goalscoring record intact.

But, with Newcastle set to return to the Champions League next season, then it would be crazy for them to, push for Kane’s signature in the summer, get him and then surpass the 260 mark in the black and white colours.

It would be unthinkable, crazy and historic. Whilst it’s unlikely to happen, never rule out the crazy things happening in football.
