Darren Bent told talkSPORT on Wednesday that it’s ‘so funny’ that Jose Mourinho claimed he has won ’25 and a half ‘trophies following his Tottenham sacking.

The now-Roma coach was sacked by Daniel Levy days before Tottenham reached the League Cup final, where Manchester City awaiting them.

It denied the trophy-laden coach to win a 26th trophy of his career and, speaking to James Corden, he spoke about being denied the chance to play that final at Wembley.

Bent saw the funny side to Mourinho’s comments and shared how that surprise call from Levy just didn’t pay off.

“So funny that,” said Bent. “You think if there was one manager to win a final, it would be Jose Mourinho.

“And I get it, the whole Ryan Mason thing. I think Ryan Mason will go onto be a good manager.

“But you need to look at the circumstances. He’s playing against Manchester City. He’s beaten Pep in a final before, in terms of setting the team up to be pragmatic. But getting the results.

“When you are looking for that new manager bounce in the final, there was nothing.”

Not only did Tottenham not win the League Cup final but they ended up finishing the season in seventh place.

And whilst Mourinho will be working his tactical brain in Italy next season, Spurs are yet to bring in his replacement even though it’s been nearly two months since his departure.

Amazingly enough, the man who was sacked by Roma – Paulo Fonseca – is now seemingly the frontrunner to replace Mourinho.

That would be something, Mourinho replacing his fellow countryman at Roma, and Fonseca replacing him in North London.
