Wyndham Clark has returned to form in sensational style over the past few weeks.

Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, won the CJ CUP Byron Nelson two weeks ago and he followed that up with a fine performance at The Memorial Tournament.

The 32-year-old has seriously struggled with his game over the past 18 months or so, although he did start to show some encouraging signs last summer.

Wyndham Clark finished in a tie for fourth at The Open Championship at Royal Portrush and then proceeded to work really hard on his game throughout the off-season.

Clark followed up his win at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson with a T-3 finish at The Memorial.

Wyndham Clark’s confidence has come oozing back after his CJ CUP win, and he will now fancy his chances of triumphing at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.

Smylie Kaufman makes Wyndham Clark prediction 10 days before the U.S. Open

Smylie Kaufman has been speaking about Clark on the Smylie Show.

The former PGA Tour player highlighted just how good Clark’s iron play has been recently, when making a prediction about the 32-year-old.

I think Wyndham Clark just might win the US Open, Kaufman predicted.

I couldn’t think more of his game right now. I think he’s got that swagger to him. He’s got this confidence about him.

The putter went a little cold on him on the weekend when, you know, you kind of had to keep up in a putting contest.

But he’s clearly putting much better. We saw what happened at Byron Nelson, he made everything he looked at.

But it definitely was an impressive week from my perspective to see how he was going to follow up the Byron Nelson and being that close to winning.

Wyndham Clark’s key strength

Kaufman spoke about Clark’s iron play as something that has taken him to another level entirely this season.

The one thing that continues to jump out to me about Wyndham Clark and even Sam Burns – I put them in the same category – when Wyndham and Sam Burns hit their irons well, their game just elevates, Kaufman said.

You know, these are two guys that have tons of strength off the tee. You know, they’re mid-180s, high 180s ball speed guys.

They can be a little inaccurate off the tee, maybe an outlier here or there, but when their iron games are sharp, their short games are so good that it feels like they’re going to contend.

And you look at the analytics. This week, when Clark had a great iron week, Sam Burns had a great iron week, and they’ve had great iron years, which is why you’ve seen Sam Burns contend so many times, and you’re starting to see Wyndham Clark do the same.

Kaufman isn’t wrong either. Clark is ranked 10th in strokes gained approach so far this season.

However, his weakness has been his accuracy off the tee. The 32-year-old is ranked 84th in that particular category in 2026.

If Wyndham Clark can find a way to improve his driving, he could be a very big problem at the remaining two majors this season.
