Owen Hargreaves has lauded Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto as a ‘smart player’ and someone who is growing by the week.

The former England midfielder also noticed how the Leeds United players are always looking to give the ball to the 19-year-old and allowing him to create his magic.

Despite the struggles of the Yorkshire club this season, where they face another relegation battle, their summer signing on the flanks has been a massive positive.

Despite still being a teenager, he is already commanding a lot of attention and even saw Gary Neville claim that he is a Manchester City-type winger.

Now, those at Elland Road have already lost a big player to the current champions of England, and in order to move forward, they don’t want that to happen again.

But if Gnonto continues to demand that type of attention, then he is doing something right and Hargreaves provided the youngster with his flowers, as he told Generation XG on Premier League Productions (27/02/23 at 5:50 pm).

“We have all played with a player like that,” said Hargreaves. “When you see him on the pitch. You think ‘let’s just get it to him and let him create something’.

“Gnonto is that type of player. He is a great dribbler. Powerful. Smart player. It looks like Leeds are trying to find a way to get to him as quickly as possible.

“It feels like Firpo and Gnonto have a good relationship, whether it’s in or out.”

GNONTO PROVIDES LEEDS WITH HOPE

Javi Gracia got a much-needed manager’s bounce when Leeds secured a 1-0 win over bottom-of-the-table Southampton over the weekend.

But if the Whites are to get over that dotted line, then they are going to need Gnonto to provide his magic.

Even if the all-action forward isn’t getting on the scoresheet, he is still commanding attention and attracting players who are trying to kick him up and down the pitch.
