Rhodes’ transfer from Middlesbrough to Sheffield Wednesday is currently being held up.

Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough expect Jordan Rhodes’ transfer to Hillsborough will be ratified by the Football League on Wednesday afternoon, according to Sky Sports.

An agreement was reached between all three parties on Tuesday evening, with Rhodes having passed a medical with the Owls.

But uncertainty over the timing of the two clubs’ paperwork submissions has prevented an announcement from being made, with the EFL set to meet this morning to establish whether or not the deal beat the 11pm cut-off for transfers.

However, according to Sky Sports, both Wednesday and Boro are confident everything was finalised in time and that Rhodes’ move will go through as hoped.

The 26-year-old is out-of-favour at Boro following the recent additions of Rudy Gestede and Patrick Bamford, and a switch to Hillsborough would not only improve his chances of regular first-team football but also see the Scotland international reunited with his father, Andy – the Owls’ goalkeeping coach.

Sky Sports reports that Wednesday are paying a club-record £10 million for Rhodes, despite claims from the Sheffield Star that the deal is an initial half-season loan with an option to make permanent in the summer.
