The Premier League and Sky Sports are as synonymous as it gets in the worlds of sports and media.
Since the Premier League broke away from the rest of the English football pyramid in 1992, Sky have dished billions and billions in TV revenue and supported the league’s global commercial vision.
And while the league’s underlying finances are shaky, there are certainly no complaints from Premier League clubs about the raw income from media sources.
A few years back, the Premier League reached a huge milestone: the value of its overseas broadcast rights exceeded the money they earned at home – from Sky, TNT and others – for the very first time.

Over the current four-year rights cycle, the 20 top-flight clubs will share in excess of £12bn in revenue from TV and streaming deals. In global terms, only the NFL, NBA and IPL can compete on those terms.
Last season, 2025-26, was the first Premier League campaign under a new £6.7bn TV deal.
And new data illustrates that, despite some concerns about the value of the deal for both the buy and sell sides from industry experts, the new agreement appears to be going swimmingly.
Sky Sports viewership up 25% in first year of new Premier League TV deal
When the Premier League renegotiated the sale of the majority of their TV rights to Sky, they had to sell many more games to the broadcasters in exchange for the increases in value.
In 2025-26, as Arsenal won the title for the first time in over two decades, Sky showed 215 matches in total, up from 115 the previous season.
That sparked concerns about oversaturation, value for advertisers, viewer fatigue, backlash among fans regarding fixtures rescheduled for TV and more.

But new data released today by Sky shows that total viewing figures were up 25 per cent year-on-year across the Premier League campaign.
Sky’s research suggests that an average of 1.77 million people watched a Premier League match on Sky Sports in the UK.
It also pointed to its findings that more fans were watching live Premier League games in hospitality venues.
