Clinton Morrison praised Arsenal defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny on Sky Sports News (2:16pm, November 7, 2020).

The former Crystal Palace and Birmingham City forward, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, is impressed at the way Elneny has established himself in the Arsenal first following his return from a loan spell at Besiktas.

The Egypt international defensive midfielder spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at the Turkish club, and Morrison believes that he would have thought that he had no future at the Gunners when he returned to the North London club in the summer of 2020.

Morrison said about Elneny on Sky Sports News (2:16pm, November 7, 2020): “I thought he was brilliant alongside Partey (against Manchester United). He is probably coming back to Arsenal in the summer and thinking, ‘Have I got a future at Arsenal having been on loan?’

“It’s a clean slate, and I think if you train hard, you get that opportunity, and Elneny has come in and taken that opportunity. I thought he was fantastic alongside Partey.

“You have to give huge credit to the coaching staff because whatever he (Mikel Arteta) is doing there at Arsenal, he is improving players, in particular Elneny, who probably thought his Arsenal career was over.”

Important player for Arsenal

Elneny has been superb for Arsenal so far this season and has established himself as an important player in Mikel Arteta’s team.

The Egyptian played well alongside Thomas Partey in midfield against Manchester United last weekend, and perhaps the duo could become a regular pair in the middle of the park.

The 28-year-old has taken his chances, and he should be an inspiration to all the fringe players at Arsenal.

According to WhoScored, Elneny has played four times in the Premier League and thrice in the Europa League for Arsenal so far this season.
