LeBron James is returning to one of his most beloved roles on the court after signing with the Philadelphia 76ers.
For the first time in his NBA career, LeBron James will don the jersey of the Philadelphia 76ers as the 41-year-old signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the organization.
However, many are skeptical of how the 76ers will actually compete with so many ball-dominant players on the same roster.
After all, the 76ers already had Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, and Tyrese Maxey on the team before adding James to the mix.
LeBron James plans to play point guard for Philadelphia 76ers and Skip Bayless loves it
The 76ers will reportedly have James play point guard for the team, a role he last played for the Los Angeles Lakers during their title-winning 2019-20 NBA season.
With James commanding a playmaking role, it should make life easy for the rest of the 76ers players. In fact, even James’ biggest critic, Skip Bayless, is in favor of this transition for the King.
“People around the NBA questioning LeBron’s fit in Philly? HE’S A PERFECT FIT. They needed a pure PG, an orchestrator, and that’s what LeBron does best,” Bayless wrote on X.
He added, “Tyrese [Maxey] has averaged 6 assists last 3 years. LBJ will average 11ish and lead league in assists.”
Despite not being the point guard for the Lakers, James averaged 7.2 assists per game last season. Moreover, he led the league in assists during the 2019-20 season.
Keeping that in mind, James may take a backseat on the 76ers roster and distribute the ball to increase the team’s chances of succeeding come playoff time.
