Newcastle United might finally get their man.
After weeks and weeks of trying, Marc Guehi is closing in on a transfer from Crystal Palace to Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe has been keen to add defensive strength to his backline this summer after last season’s struggles, injuries and loss of form to key players.
Sven Botman has been a key player for the Magpies, but his season-ending injury at the start of the year has further forced the club to push for a new centre-back.
Lloyd Kelly arrived on a free transfer from Bournemouth at the start of the summer and they were trying to reciprocate that with Tosin Adarabioyo after he left Fulham.
But Adarabioyo decided to join Chelsea and it didn’t help Newcastle’s cause, who have since been making bid after bid for Guehi.
Palace have turned down record bids for Guehi and it seemed like Howe would have to search elsewhere for a new face to his backline.
But now there seems to be a breakthrough and it’s looking like the Toon Army faithful will get to see Guehi in actions in their colours.
Simon Jordan was reacting to all of this unfold, but he has been left baffled by the actions of Palace.
On top of their ‘superstar’ defender Guehi, Palace are also set to sell Joachim Andersen to Fulham and that’s two key centre-backs out of the door in next to no time.
Jordan can’t believe the actions of his former club and he is trying to find a logical reason behind it all, as he told talkSPORT.
Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen to leave Crystal Palace
“Why would they do it,” questioned Jordan. “Why would they sell? I mean, Guehi is one thing. £70 million, if they get it, it’s a big deal and it’s worth doing. It’s understandable and the player would push to go that way because he thinks it’s an opportunity.
“Why would Palace bake into their thinking that they have to sell both centre-backs?”

Marc Guehi under Eddie Howe
Howe has been backed to improve Guehi and you can see this partnership flourishing because this is the right time for the Palace man to step up.
Guehi was outstanding for England at Euro 2024 and he proved that he is good enough to play at an elite level or for a team aspiring to reach that level.

Newcastle might have no European football right now, but they were in the Champions League last season and are desperate to taste it again.
A player like Guehi certainly increases their chances of returning because he is one of the best defenders in Europe right now.
