Arsenal icon Robert Pires has suggested that the Gunners bring in another defender when the January transfer window opens for business.

Speaking to the Mirror, the club legend claimed that Arsenal should be looking to sign a defender. With Pires suggesting that an English backline could help Mikel Arteta take the club back to the top of the Premier League.

Whilst Arsenal currently have a minus goal difference in the standings, the defence is hardly an area of worry for the north London side. With the Gunners conceding fewer goals than the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United and Crystal Palace this season.

Indeed, the attack and a lack of goals has been the main issue for Arsenal, with this problem something fans are hopeful will be addressed in the January transfer window.

To put it into comparison, Liverpool have scored almost three times as many goals as Arsenal in the Premier League after 12 matches. With clubs such as Brentford, Aston Villa and Newcastle all scoring more than the Gunners.

And with Pires suggesting that Arsenal should work on the defence, fans on social media are not amused with what their former attacker had to say about what Arteta and Edu should do in January.
